Faith Journey
Our 3 year olds through 5th graders take a "journey" each Sunday morning to learn about the Bible's teaching using the workshop rotation model, which is a creative and effective approach to Sunday School. The children attend a different workshop each Sunday, where they experience a faith story from several perspectives using various learning techniques. Children come to know the Bible and God through puppetry, drama, art, storytelling, games and cooking. The workshop rotation model changes the method of teaching from "sit and listen" to "learn by doing".
During a 4-week period, the journey takes our kids to a 4 different destinations where they experience the same Bible story in 4 different ways. The children stay with their age groups as they move each week to one of these rooms:
Parable Playhouse
Re-enacting stories through acting, playing games using puppets, listening to a story-teller, watching a video dramatization of the story or making their own video of the story;
Creation Station
Arts and Crafts;
Loaves & Fishes Cafe
A cooking (and eating!) experience;
Spreadtheword.com
Computer learning games and map experiences.
Adults are involved as teachers and shepherds.
Teachers sign up to teach the workshop that most suits their talents and interest, thus increasing their motivation, for a short-term commitment of four weeks. The Shepherds add continuity and give the children an adult with whom they can build a relationship. These special adults commit to being with the same group of children every week throughout the year. They are not responsible for preparing a lesson, but accompany the children to their workshops and support them in the spiritual learning journey.
