Chancel Choir
Chancel Choir is our church's premier choral ensemble, leading weekly worship
at our 11:00 service, as well as presenting cantatas and special events. Chancel Choir is open to all adults, and to youth in grades 9-12 who also participate in our CYF Ensemble.
Rehearsals: Wednesdays, 7:00-8:30 pm
Sunday Morning warm-up, 10:40 am
CYF Ensemble
The CYF Ensemble,for youth in grades 9 through 12, presents special music in worship about every two months. To compensate for high-schoolers' varied schedules, participants meet individually or in sectionals with the director until about two weeks before presentation, when all parts are put together. CYF Ensemble singers are also welcome to sing with the Chancel Choir. Contact the church office (972-771-5526) if you are interested in becoming a part of this dynamic group.
J4J (Jubilant For Jesus)
J4J, choir for students in 4th through 8th grades, presents special music in worship once every two months, as well as special events. Most recently the group performed a musical drama, "The Backyard Bunch", proceeds from which will be used to purchase much needed Mandarin language Bibles for the mission field in China. J4J rehearses after the 11:00 service on Sundays.
Psalm One-Five-Oh! Children's Choirs
Psalm 150
Praise the Lord!
Praise God in his sanctuary;
Praise him in his mighty firmament!
Praise him for his mighty deeds;
Praise him according to his exceeding greatness!
Praise him with trumpet sound;
Praise him with lute and harp!
Praise him with timbrel and dance;
Praise him with strings and pipe!
Praise him with sounding cymbals;
Praise him with loud clashing cymbals!
Let everything that breathes praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord!
♫ What is it?
The exuberant joy of Psalm 150 inspired the name of Psalm One-Five-Oh! Children's Choirs, sponsored by First Christian Church Rockwall. The only cost to participants is a small fee (less than $20.00) for a Psalm One-Five-Oh! T-shirt. Our goal is to give children the opportunity to learn the joy of expressing themselves through musical experiences.
♫ How is it organized?
Children are divided by age into three groups. During choir time each group rotates through three stations where they experience age appropriate activities. The stations are:
Bible Creativity: Here children participate in artistic lessons about
the Bible and music.
Music Fun-Damentals: At this station we use movement, games and|
instruments to learn about rhythm and pitch, intervals, sol-fa and sight
singing.
Choir Team Time: Students apply skills learned in Music Fun-
Damentals, plus learn about expression, dynamics, and develop
important ensemble skills through a variety of quality music.
♫ Who can participate?
Our three choirs are:
Verse 1 - for children age 3 (who are potty trained) through 5
(but not yet in Kindergarten)
Verse 2 - for children in Kindergarten through 2nd grade
Verse 3 - for children in 3rd grade through 5th grade
You do not need to be a member or regular attendee of First Christian Church Rockwall to participate in Children's Choir. We do ask that children participate in two church services each semester as a way of thanking the congregation for their sponsorship. During the Fall 2007 session these dates are October 14th and December 2nd. We will also have one evening performance each semester. The date for this will be determined shortly and you will be informed as soon as possible.
♫ Where do the choirs meet?
We meet at: First Christian Church Rockwall
